A short ceremony on the laying of the foundation stone for the installation of floodlights was held at the hands of Deputy Chief Minister, Francis D'souza, here, at Duler stadium, Mapusa on Thursday evening.
Others present at the venue were Glenn Ticlo (MLA of Aldona Constituency), Renuka Gupta (Chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council), Elvis Gomes (DMA and Member Secretary GSUDA), Rajsingh Rane (Vice-Chairperson GSUDA), Uday Lawande (Chief Project Officer-GSUDA), Subhash Kalangutkar (Ward Councillor of Ward No 5, MMC) and Lavinio Rebello (vice-president GFA).
The project is expected approximately cost about Rs 3.50 crore and is scheduled to be switched on by end of December 2015. The Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) will be taking up the work of the installation of floodlights and would include the design, engineering, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and performance as well as testing of outdoor sports arena lighting of the existing football stadium at Duler.
Speaking on the occasion Ticlo said: “I would like to thank GSUDA, MMC for making this possible. This work of installing floodlights at the stadium will be undertaken by GSUDA and will cost over Rs 3 crore. This is the only ground of GFA in Bardez and will now see more matches in the night. The working crowd will also be able to benefit from this and come and enjoy the beautiful game."
“The installation of floodlights at this stadium will help GFA to organize matches late evening. This stadium will be floodlit in three and a half month's time,” stated Lavinio.
Finally, the GFA's plan to upgrade the Duler Stadium in Mapusa by installing floodlights will see the light of day by December 2015.
