Dunes Sports Club-Mandrem managed to hold Goa Velha Sports Club to a goalless draw in the GFA-Geno First Division League at Duler stadium, here on Wednesday. After today’s drawn encounter, Dunes have 3 points from three matches; while Goa Velha have one point from two
matches.
Dunes having drawn their earlier two matches, came into the game with a victory in sight and though the play was mostly restricted to the midfield in the first session, they had two attempts to take the lead.
A close header by Sandesh Sawant in the 8th minute off a corner, sailed just over the crossbar. Four minutes later, a mis-clearance by Goa Velha defender Arjun Colaco hit Alberto Brito, whose placement was saved by keeper Franky Gabral.
On crossing over in the 50th minute, Alberto’s cross into the heart of the Goa Velha goal area, was smartly collected by keeper Franky. At the other end, Goa Velha’s Lakesh Gawas’ blistering shot at the goal from outside the penalty box, was parried for a corner by keeper Shridhar Pujar.
As the match progressed, Dunes Alberto Brito saw two of his close headers travel over the post. Kadhambari Bhagat, Sr. Manager (HRM) of Geno Pharmaceuticals, presented the man-of-the match award to Goa Velha’s Akash Sanadi (U-20 player).
