Dunes Sports Club, Morjim continued to hold their dominance over Football Club of Siolim when they registered a comfortable 4-1 win to romp into the semi-finals of McDowell's N0 1 Yaari Premier Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Agassaim Youth Club at Agassiam ground, on Tuesday. Dunes Sports Club led 2-0 at half time.The highlight of the day was a brilliant hat-trick by striker Sandesh Sawant.
If Dunes Sports Club were deserving winners, it was due to their solidity in defence, a more organized midfield that plotted and probed the consistency and an attack that was more on target than their opponents.
On the other hand, FC Siolim were pathetic.They were lethargic and often lost the possession of the ball. Sandesh Sawant who was in the thick of action opened the scoring in the 10th minute when he deceived his markers and placed the ball to the far corner of the net.Spurred by early lead, Dunes Sports Club mounted tremendous pressure on the rival citadel and Sandesh Sawant registered his brace when he unleashed a volley which crashed into the net.
Post resumption,Football Club of Siolim, stunned by the two first half goals,continued to hunt for goals and immediately reduced the margin through Rajesh Poumpurpekar.
Stunned by the reducer, Dunes Sports Club once again got into an attacking mode and five minutes later Sandesh Sawant flicked home to complete his hat-trick. Glencio Britto added his name to the scorers' list when he unleashed a stiff shot which beat the rival goalkeeper hands down at the fag end.
