FC Goa have appointed Sukhvinder Singh as their new CEO. Singh, who has earlier worked with Nike India and All India Football Federation, will take over the reins of the Goan franchise of the Indian Super League later this month.
The club had advertised for the CEO post and the management interviewed four shortlisted candidates, one from Goa, and two senior officials from existing I-League clubs. Singh, who heads Libero Sports' India division, is expected to quit the leading football consultancy and player agency in the next couple of days. e is currently in Manchester attending Soccerex global convention and is expected to arrive in India on Monday.
“One of the top I-League club’s official was also in the reckoning but he didn’t wish to shift to Goa for the job,” a source close to the development was quoted as saying by goal.com.
Interestingly, Sukhvinder is among those who believe that the ISL has to become a longer league for it to be sustainable. “For ISL to be sustainable and successful, it will have to convert itself into a longer league with the franchise owners making adequate investment in football development projects at community level,” he told the website last year.
Sukhvinder, who is set to arrive back in Delhi on Sunday evening is expected to hand in his resignation from Libero Sports. He had also applied for the position of AIFF’s general secretary and Project Director for the Under-17 World Cup.
