MARGAO: FC Siolim beat Sao Jose de Areal 5-4 in the tie-breaker after the match ended in a goalless draw in regulation time in the 51st Seamen Trophy football tournament, organised by Chandor Club, at the Chandor Church Complex ground on Wednesday.
The match was evenly contested, with both teams defending resolutely and creating opportunities, but neither could break the deadlock during the stipulated 60 minutes.
With the score tied 0-0 at full time, the match went into a tie-breaker, where Siolim held their nerve to secure a 5-4 victory.
Vipul Pednekar, Vishank Dhargalkar, Pushparaj Mandrekar, Tushar Haldankar and Akshay Mandolkar converted for Siolim, while Bersal Viegas, Stalen Oliveira, Josley Gomes and Mohamed Mansoori scored for Sao Jose de Areal.
Vipul Pednekar of FC Siolim was adjudged Player of the Match and received the award from Jose Coutinho, Organizing Secretary.
