MARGAO: Fondegal and Novovaddo booked their places in the next round of the 7-a-side St Alex Festival Inter-Ward Football Tournament, organised by the St Alex Parish Youth Association, Curtorim, at the St Alex Church Ground, Curtorim.
Fondegal registered an impressive 4-2 victory over Paldem. Reuben Fernandes opened the scoring as early as the second minute before Edwin restored parity for Paldem. After the break, Mario Mascarenhas put Fondegal back in front, and Reuben grabbed his second of the match to extend the lead to 3-1. Showin Carvalho reduced the deficit for Paldem, but Jonathan Cunha sealed the win with Fondegal's fourth goal.
In another match, Novovaddo edged past Cumborda 2-1 to advance. Jeliston Fernandes and Macklister Fernandes scored for the winners, while Melvin Fernandes netted Cumborda's lone goal.
Showin Carvalho of Paldem and Rio Fernandes of Cumborda were presented the Man of the Match awards by Fr Manuel Dias, Parish Priest of St Alex Church, and Fr Sertorio Rodrigues.
