Fr. Agnel College of Arts and Commerce, Pilar organised the Inter-Collegiate and Inter-Staff/Residents of St Andre Constituency Cross Country Race 2026-27 on Saturday.
The event, sponsored by Peter Palha in memory of his late brother, Antonio Cruz Palha, brought together over 200 participants from 23 colleges and the St Andre constituency.
The race featured four categories: college men and women covering 9.5 km, staff/residents men covering 7.5 km, and staff/residents women covering 6 km.
In the Inter-Collegiate Men’s category, Somu Yadav of DMC, Assagao, claimed first place, followed by Nikhil Gawde of GVM’s College, Farmagudi; Ganesh Tamburkar of Parvatibai Chowgule College; Sushant Gaonkar of Shree Mallikarjun and Shri Chetan Desai College, Canacona; and Narayan Giri of SSA Government College and Research Centre, Pernem.
The Inter-Collegiate Women’s race was dominated by Rosary College, Navelim, with Amanda Dias and Fatima Braganza securing first and second places, respectively, while Shalu Chavhan of Government College, Quepem, finished third.
In the Staff/Residents Men’s category, Fredson Marshall emerged victorious, followed by Tanvesh Narvekar and Sam Braganza. The Women’s category saw Prissie Fernandes clinch first place, with Usha Kutiyal and Sylsan Fernandes taking second and third positions, respectively.
Team championships added further excitement, with Shree Mallikarjun and Shri Chetan Desai College, Canacona, winning the Inter-Collegiate Men’s team title, followed by Government College, Quepem, and SSA Government College and Research Centre, Pernem.
In the Inter-Collegiate Women’s team championship, Government College, Quepem, secured first place, while Shree Mallikarjun and Shri Chetan Desai College, Canacona, came second and Rosary College, Navelim, finished third.
The event was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Principal Prof. Annie Rajan, Administrator Dr Fr Fredrick Rodrigues, and Special Guest and Sponsor Peter Palha. The race was coordinated by Melinda Pereira, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, and Joston Cardoz, Instructor in Physical Education.
