As four teams prepare for their semi-final showdown at Euro 2016, the chase for the Golden boot looks set to be just as exciting.
Portugal and Wales meet in the last four on Wednesday followed by Germany's crunch clash with hosts France ‒ and there is still uncertainty over who will finish as the top goalscorer this summer.
Going into the European Championship semi-finals, it's the France trio of Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud and Dimitri Payet who lead the way, closely followed by Wales superstar Gareth Bale.
Should two or more players be locked on the same number of goals, then the number of assists will be taken into account.
Should two players have the same number of goals and assists by the end of Euro 2016, the race will be decided by the player to have the best goals-to-minutes ratio over the course of the competition.
So, who will secure the prestigious individual honour?
Griezmann, perhaps France's best performer this summer, is top of the charts after notching his fourth goal of the tournament in the hosts' quarter-final victory over Iceland.
But the Atletico Madrid forward is closely followed by Giroud, who scored his second and third goals of Euro 2016 in Sunday's 5-2 victory over the tournament's surprise package.
And Payet, the West Ham playmaker, completes the current France 1-2-3 on the same number of goals and assists as the Arsenal striker.
However, Giroud pips him to second-place at the moment having played 77 minutes less than his international team-mate.
But there's no writing off Bale, whose three goals and one assist for Wales sees him sit in fourth-place going into his nation's crunch clash with Portugal.
And the Real Madrid superstar will have the added incentive on Wednesday when he goes head-to-head with club team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, who has managed two goals and two assists so far.
Antoine Griezmann (France - 4 goals, two assists, 345 minutes played)
Leading the way with four goals for France this summer, Griezmann has taken his exceptional form for Atletico Madrid this season and displayed it on the international stage. The 25-year-old scored a decisive goal in Les Bleus' group stage win over Albania before turning their last-16 tie with Republic of Ireland on its head with a brace in the 2-1 comeback victory.
And his clever chipped finish against Iceland at the Stade de France moves him ahead of the pack ‒ and it'd be no surprise if he's involved in the goals again on Thursday against Germany.
Olivier Giroud (France - 3 goals, 2 assists, 300 minutes played)
Often criticised for his lack of goals, Giroud has silenced his critics this summer by impressively leading the line for the Euro 2016 hosts.
The Arsenal hitman was among the goals in Didier Deschamps' side's Group A-opening victory over Romania and although he went two games without scoring, he came back with a bang on Sunday.
Giroud grabbed a goal in each half to help his side to an impressive victory and with Andre-Pierre Gignac struggling, he's expected to lead the line again when they meet the world champions.
Dimitri Payet (France - 3 goals, 2 assists, 377 minutes played)
This time last year, Payet had only just sealed his move to West Ham in a surprise move but fast forward 12 months and the playmaker is now a star for both club and country.
After a stunning debut campaign in the Premier League, Payet has gone from strength-to-strength and notched a sensational last-minute winner in that victory over Romania.
Further goals in the victories over Albania and Iceland puts him level on goals with Giroud - and you wouldn't be surprised if he comes up with the goods once again.
Gareth Bale (Wales - 3 goals, 1 assist, 443 minutes played)
A goal in each of Wales' three Group B matches saw Bale lead the race going into the quarter-finals but his failure to score in the victory over Belgium sees him sit fourth at the moment.
But with the former Tottenham star set to lock horns with Ronaldo on Wednesday, there's an added incentive of performing for his nation.
And with Wales already defying the odds to book a semi-final clash with Portugal, there seems to be nothing stopping Bale and Co in France.
Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal - 2 goals, two assists, 510 minutes played)
The Real superstar hasn't turned up in this tournament - apart from netting a brace in Portugal's 3-3 group stage clash with Hungary. Yet you'd be silly to write him off and similar to Bale, he'll want to get one over his club team-mate in style.
