CANACONA
The Gandhi–Shastri Run 2026, organised by Dnyan Prabodhini Mandal’s Shree Mallikarjun & Shri Chetan Manju Desai College, Canacona, witnessed a grand response on Sunday, with around 600 enthusiastic participants taking part in the approximately 5-km run from the Canacona Bus Stand to the historic Shree Mallikarjun Temple at Sristhal.
The run was organised under the leadership and vision of Shri Chetan Manju Desai, Chairman of Dnyan Prabodhini Mandal, with the objective of promoting fitness, sportsmanship, unity and a healthy lifestyle among the people of Canacona.
The event began with a warm-up Zumba session conducted by Sandip Gaonkar and Sanjay Velip, creating an energetic atmosphere among the participants.
Congress youth president Archit Naik flagged off the run in the presence of Vaishnav Pednekar, Canacona Youth Leader, and other dignitaries.
The response extended well beyond Canacona, with participants and supporters travelling from Pernem, Porvorim and other parts of Goa. Government administrative officers, medical professionals, sports personalities, students, senior citizens and citizens from different walks of life participated in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Chetan Manju Desai expressed his gratitude to all participants and supporters who travelled to Canacona and contributed to making the event a success. He thanked the medical teams, government officials, volunteers, educational institutions and the people of Canacona for their wholehearted cooperation.
GCA Secretary Tulshidas Shetye, GCA Honorary Treasurer Abdul Saiyad, and the President of Shree Mallikarjun Temple Rajendra Desai were among those present. Sports Director Savio Leitao was felicitated for his valuable contribution and dedicated services to sports and the institution.
