Indian women's football team coach Maymol Rocky is the recipient for Best Coach award while India U-19 cricketer Heramb Parab is the best emerging player of the season.
The Geno Sports Awards 2016-17 were announced by Geno Pharmaceuticals Managing Director, Dilip Salgaocar at a press conference on Tuesday in Panaji. Incidentally, the awards have been re-insituted after a gap of two years. At the briefing, Dilip Salgaocar stated that corporates like Salgaocars, Dempos and Geno have stepped in to support budding sports talent in the State when their parents are unable to provide them financial assistance, particularly at the international level.
Apart from the individual awards, the teams to be honoured for their fine performance in the season are: Goa aquatics team, which won 18 medals at the aquatics nationals; St Xavier's College, Mapusa, (Best college in sports for boys) and Rosary College, Navelim, (Best college in sports for girls)
Apart from the sports awards, the SJAG will also recognise the efforts of all-rounder Shikha Pandey and physiotherapist Tracy Fernandes for their remarkable performance in India's journey to the finals of ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in England earlier this year.
The SJAG will also present a citation, as a token of Appreciation for supporting budding talents in the state sports arena, to Dilip Salgaocar, CMD, Geno Pharmaceuticals and Shrinivas Dempo, Dempo Group chairman .
Senior Sports Journalist Manguesh Borkar (Goa Doot) and photo-journalist Ganadeep Sheldekar (The Navhind Times) will also be felicitated for their
contribution to sports.
