The Goa Football Association (GFA) on Thursday condemned the GFDC's attempt to influence selection of players for the Sub Junior State squad which will represent Goa in the Sub Junior National Football Championship 2017-18 for Boys (West Zone) to be held from August 20-25 in Goa.
GFA President Elvis Gomes said that "any sane person who understands sports will know that selection is the prerogative of the coaching team alone and questioned the attempt by GFDC to influence the coaches to select particu
lar players."
"We do not know who are in this GFDC. But people like Brahmanand Sankhwalkar and Sanjiv Nagvenkar who know the game should advise these ignorant loud mouths about the nuances. If they wish to be part of the coaching team they are welcome next time," Gomes said in a press statement.
"The whole Executive Committee has expressed their confidence in the coach. These are attempts to demoralize the team before the Nationals. We have age old clubs who are doing strong grass root programs. Though they are the GFA's members, they would never interfere in the selection. Who is this GFDC to tell us?"
added Gomes.
The President further said that the Government could chalk out a better policy for football development if it is interested instead of wasting tax payers' money on "cake cutting and picnics".
GFDC Member Secretary Aleixo Da Costa had on Wednesday questioned the State team's selection after the GFDC Academy lads defeated the State team in a friendly. Pointing out to the result, Da Costa said that GFA's selection process was flawed. The GFDC is also aggrieved that its star product, Arnold Oliveira - who scored five hat-tricks in the Under-14 State Subroto Mukerjee Inter School football tournament - did not find a place in the
State squad.
The government-aided organisation had demanded that the State association "take a re-look at the team and rectify any intentional omissions made by them in the selection process."
