Futebol Club YFA downed debutants Young Boys of Tonca Sports Club 2-1 in the GFA Vedanta Women's League at Dramapur ground, on Tuesday.
Futebol Club YFA fans who showed up hoping to see a good performance from the team were not disappointed. The team broke the deadlock in the 4th minute as Lifa Gama slotted past the rival goalkeeper Amisha Shetgaonkar.
Stung by the early setback, Young Boys of Tonca had little to cheer as their forwards were wayward in the final third. Despite some good build-up play and probing runs, they couldn’t get behind the well-organised defence of the rivals and the particularly impressive Lifa in the centre.
In the second half, YFA created forays into the rival box with Chelsea Crasto in the thick of the action. YFA were comfortable in possession, making it tough for their opponents to impose their game.
Sujata Shetty scored the second goal for YFA in the 61st minute to seal the match. Donea Fernandes managed to score a consolation goal for YBT.
Lifa Gama of Futebol YFA was adjudged as the Player of the Match. She received the award at the hands of Micky Rebello, GFDC coach and former coach of Salgaocar FC.
