GFDC Residential Academy boys beat Bengaluru Football Club 5-0 at Reliance Corporate Park (RCP) on Wednesday in the ongoing matches of an exposure tour organised by Reliance Foundation Football Academy, Navi Mumbai.
The Goan youngsters put Bengaluru FC on the back foot with a flurry of attacks from the first minute onwards. With a good supply of passes the Goan side opened the scoring in the 24th minute through Harsh Patre who cut through the defence and struck a fierce shot which the Bengaluru custodian had no chance of keeping out. The GFDC Academy lads continued to pile the pressure as the half progressed in a bid to score more goals.
Crossing over Bengaluru FC found it hard to break the rhythm of the Goa-based team who enjoyed the lion’s share of ball possession. Couple of minutes into the second half Harsh scored off a powerful left-footer from outside the box. Mevan added his name to the score-sheet with two quick goals in the 46th and 54th minute respectively. Attacks kept flooding the Bengaluru box keeping the goal-keeper on his toes. In the dying minutes of the match, Aditiya Salgaonkar lobbed the ball over the on rushing rival goalkeeper, 5-0.
The GFDC Technical In-Charge and Residential Academy head coach, Derryl D’Souza was happy about the fact that the team put up a formidable performance. “The boys stuck to the plan and executed their individual tasks brilliantly. We are trying to build up on our style of play and making our players adapt to various systems as this will give them good confidence ahead in decision-making,” he said.
