Goa’s sporting fraternity has welcomed the nomination of Goa Badminton Association president Manoj Patil as part of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) contingent for the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 in Japan from September 25 to 30.
Patil, a former cricketer who represented Goa, is also joint secretary of the Goa Olympic Association. He was instrumental in the formation of the Goa Pickleball Association and currently serves as its advisor.
The Goa Badminton Association congratulated Patil on his nomination. GBA secretary Praveen Shenoy said the recognition reflected Patil’s contribution to sport in Goa. “Manoj’s experience as a sportsperson and administrator, coupled with his efforts towards the development of sport in Goa, make this a fitting recognition of his contribution,” Shenoy said.
The Goa Olympic Association also welcomed the nomination, describing it as an acknowledgement of Patil’s contribution to the state’s sporting movement.
Patil is presently Additional Private Secretary to the Chief Minister of Goa and is a founder trustee of the Vibrant Goa Foundation. He has also been associated with Rotary, Jaycees and BNI, besides conducting entrepreneurship and capacity-building programmes.
