Goa spinner Sachin Bukkam ran through Assam with a five-wicket haul which saw the visitors being bowled out for a paltry 150 on the opening day of the four-day Under-19 Cooch Behar cricket tie at GCA Cricket Academy ground, Porvorim on Sunday.
Assam won the toss and elected to bat first but were bundled out in 61 overs as Sachin and fast bowler Nihal Surlikar (4-32) ran through the visitors' line-up. Erik Roy (50) and Jay Singh Yadav (29) were the only players to offer any resistance but it wasn't enough for Assam to put together a decent total in their first innings.
In reply, Goa also started their innings on a shaky ground with Rahul Mehta and Kashap Bakhle getting out without scoring. However, the hosts recovered to finish the day on 67 for 2 in 27 overs with Tanish Sawkar (19) and Suyash Prabhudessai (29) unbeaten at the crease. For Assam, Mukhtar Hussain (1-19) and Arvind Biswa (1-11) were the two wicket takers.
Brief scores: Assam, 1st innings, 150 all out in 61 overs (Riyan Parag 15, Erik Roy 50, Jay Singh Yadav 29, Jitumoni Kalita 24, Mukhtar Hussain 12; Nihal Surlikar 4-32, Sachin Bukkam 5-38, Deepraj Gaonkar 1-31) vs Goa, 1st innings, 67 for 2 in 27 overs (Tunish Sawkar 19*, Rahul Mehta 0, Kashyap Bahkale 0, Suyash Prabhudesai 29*; Mukhtar Hussain 1-19, Arvind Biswa 1-11).
