After Goa secured a substantial 137-run first-innings lead against Gujarat in the Dr Capt K Thimmappiah Memorial Cricket Tournament, Gujarat staged a good recovery in their second innings. At the end of the third day, Gujarat were 246 for six in 61 overs, taking their overall lead to 109 runs. The third day’s play was held at the Bala Gangadharanatha Swamy School Ground on Tuesday.
The day began with Gujarat at 264 for six. Lalit Yadav, who was unbeaten on 45 at the end of the second day, went on to score 78. All-rounder Mohit Redkar also made a valuable contribution of 57. Goa had earlier bowled Gujarat out for 249 in their first innings. Goa then posted 386 to secure a 137-run lead.
However, Gujarat’s batters resisted Goa’s bowling attack in the second innings. Smit Patel steadied the innings with a patient 71 off 153 balls, while Jaymeet Patel scored a composed 63 off 94 balls, including two fours and two sixes. Vedant Trivedi contributed 31, while Manan Hingrajia scored 30.
For Goa, Yash Kasvankar was the most successful bowler, taking three wickets for 54 runs. Lalit Yadav claimed one wicket for 46 runs, Darshan Misal one for 53, and Abhinav TejRana one for four.
Goa will look to dismiss Gujarat quickly on the final day and chase the target. Gujarat, meanwhile, will aim to extend their lead with their remaining four wickets and put pressure on the Goan batting line-up.
