A brilliant hat-trick by Jaison Vaz saw Dempo Sports Club register a thumping 5-0 win over Calangute Association Sports Club in a Goa Professional League match of the sixth round, organized by GFA, at Duler stadium, here on Sunday.
Both the teams having lost their last league match -- Dempo to Goan FC and Calangute Association to Sporting Clube de Goa -- went all out for a win. After the win, Dempo have 13 points while Calangute Association stay on four points. For the winners, besides Jaison Vaz’s three goals, Clive Colaco and Pedro Gonsalves also scored.
Early in the match both the teams had a free kick each, while Calangute’s skipper Nicolau Colaco saw his free kick travel skywards, at the other end Jessel Carneiro’s free kick ricocheted off the Calangute’s crossbar. In the 17th minute, Calangute’s Sachidanand Satelkar sent a good cross at the rival goal which was chested by defender Olan Chandran to his keeper Tyson Caiado before Jason Lucas could do
any damage.
In a counter attack, Pruthvesh Pednekar sent a long ball to striker Jaison Vaz who after covering some ground latched on a low shot at the far corner of the Calangute
goal, 1-0.
After some minutes of midfield play, Dempo’s Kirtikesh Gadekar drilled a low shot at the goal which keeper Savio Paes managed to push away for a corner with a diving save.
At the other end, Calangute’s Sachidanand was well positioned inside the penalty box, but shot weakly into the waiting hands of keeper Tyson. In the injury time of the first session, the Golden Eagles doubled their lead with Jaison Vaz heading the ball into the goal off Beevan D’Mello’s cross, 2-0.
On crossing ends, the Golden Eagles almost netted in their third goal but Calangute’s keeper Savio Paes brought an excellent save to block a full-blooded shot from Jason. However the keeper could do very little to stop Clive Colaco connecting a Jessel Carneiro corner into the goal to make it 3-0 in the 62nd minute of play.
Three minutes later, the Calangute colts had a good look at the goal, where Bhilu Chawan tapped into an unguarded Dempo goal off a free kick by Dominic Fernandes but the ball was cleared on the goal-line by defender Naveen Mendes.
In the last quarter of the match, the Golden Eagles hammered two more goals with substitute Pedro Gonsalves scoring with a neat placement and in the 81st minute, Jaison Vaz completing his hat-trick with a clinical finish, 5-0.
