Salgaocar Football Club struck two goals in each session as they trounced Panjim Footballers by a 4-0 margin in the Goa Professional League, organised by GFA, at Duler stadium, here on Saturday.

For Salgaocar FC colts, Ronaldo Oliveira and Andrus John scored before the breather while Saurabh Patel and Rowllin Almeida scored after crossing the ends. The winners now move on to 20 points from nine matches while Panjim Footballers stay on four points from equal number of matches.

Panjim Footballers, after their humiliating defeat against Sporting Clube de Goa, came into the match promising more and had two shots at the rival goal early in the match.

In the very first minute, Daryl Costa sent a cross from the right flank inside the penalty box to a well positioned Jaison Fernandes, who latched on a right footer which rebounded off the Salgaocar crossbar. Another chance went begging for the capital side in the 18th minute, where a stiff grounder at the first post by Daryl Costa was saved by rival keeper Jaison D’Mello.

Salgaocar FC, who had got the better of Vasco SC in their last league match, regrouped themselves and made a quick counter attack in the 19th minute as Andrus John moved from the right flank and flashed a low cross at the Panjims goal, which was coolly tapped into the goal by an unmarked Ronaldo Oliveira, 1-0.

It did not take long for the Green Brigade to extend their lead. In the 24th minute, Andrus John collected a through pass from Samuel Costa and slammed the ball past Panjim keeper Sherwin Da Cunha. At the other end, the capital side had two close attempts at the rival goal before the breather. Keeper Jaison blocked a full-blooded shot from Lokesh Talwar while Salgaocar’s defender Saeessh Halarnkar blocked Chandan Gawas’ strike from

the rebound.

Minutes later, Chandan Gawas failed to direct his header at the Salgaocar goal after he received a perfect cross by Daryl Costa. Just five minutes into the second session, the Green Brigade netted in their third goal as a fine pinpoint cross by Sanson Pereira was smartly nodded into the goal by Saurabh Patel, 3-0.

Panjim Footballers did try to build on some pressure on the rival citadel with some fine crosses by Joyson Gauncar and Daryl Costa but strikers Snedden Rodrigues and Jaison Fernandes failed to deliver the goods upfront.

In the 68th minute, Salgaocar’s Rowllin Almeida found himself inside the penalty box and his shot at the goal took a wicked deflection off the leg of a Panjim defender before entering the goal, 4-0. The next 20 minutes of the match was mostly restricted to midfield play with the Green Brigade looking content with their four-goal lead.
