Goa slump to 87-run defeat against TN

PANAJI

Goa slumped to an 87-run loss to Tamil Nadu in the under-23 One-day League (South Zone) at T I Murugappa ground, Chennai on Wednesday.

Electing to bat, Tamil Nadu powered their way to a massive 327/5 courtesy a brilliant 175 (155 balls, 14x4, 7x6) from opener B Anirudh. Slow left-arm bowler Amulya Pandrekar with 2/65 from his quota had the best returns

for Goa.

Replying to a daunting target, Goa always had their backs to the wall. Much like their previous match, another big knock from their captain Suyash Prabhudessai, who scored 84 (79b, 9x4) was not good enough to take the fight to the opposition camp. With Vaibhav Govekar’s dismissal for 31 towards the end of the 23rd over with team score reading 112/3, Goa had a mountain to climb. Govekar had raised 59 runs for the third wicket with his captain which was far from enough. Wicket-keeper, Aditya Suryawanshi’s unbeaten 42-run effort helped in chopping off the margin of defeat, in the end. Suryawanshi along with Suyash raised the only other 50-run partnership (52) in the innings until the latter was dismissed, with Goa staring at a huge defeat (182/6). Goa eventually were bowled out for 240 inside 46 overs.

Goa winless in three matches will look to change around their fortunes when they take on Kerala on Thursday.
