Goa will host the country’s first Ironman triathlon event next year. The Ironman 70.3 race, which is a ‘half-Ironman’, will take place near Panaji on October 20, 2019.
The race begins at the Miramar beach with a 1.9km two-loop swim in the Arabian sea. Athletes will then hop on their bike for a 90km three-loop ride along the Mandovi river causeway, taking them through the city with a scenic view of the jetty and the floating casinos. They will then transition in Miramar beach for a 21-km three-loop shaded run along the Dona Paula beach. Athletes will cross the finish line back at the Miramar beach.
The Ironman Goa 70.3 is being hosted by Yoska, a Bengaluru-based fitness-technology company. “By bringing Ironman to India, we are making an international event accessible to individuals from all corners of India. This event will attract international participants equally and is a great opportunity to further enhance the brand ‘Incredible India’,” Deepak Raj, co-founder of Yoska said.
The 2019 Ironman 70.3 Goa, India triathlon is an age group only event and will offer qualifying slots for the 2020 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Taupo, New Zealand taking place on November 28-29, 2020. On top of the individual category, 2019 Ironman 70.3 Goa, India will offer a relay team option, providing an opportunity for first timers to take part in an Ironman 70.3 race.
