Goa will host the west zone sub-junior national football championship for boys from Sunday at Duler Stadium in Mapusa. The hosts will face Daman & Diu in the opening match at 4 pm. In all, six teams will take part in the competition. Goa are placed in the Group A along with Daman & Diu and Maharashtra. Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat make up the Group B. Goa will play D&D on Sunday. Their second match will be against Maharashtra on August 24.
Top teams from each group will qualify for the national round. GFA vice-president Lavinio Rebello believes that the state team will get a strong support from the home crowd. "The boys have worked very hard. The youngsters want to prove to the people of Goa that they are the best," he said.
