Goa Velha beat CAC Sports and Social Club Cansaulim 9-8 via tie breaker to move into the quarterfinals of the 22nd Vagator Soccer 2022 organised by Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club, at Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club Ground, Ozran, on Sunday.
The first half ended in a goalless draw as no clear-cut chances were created by either side. In the second half, a powerful shot in the 51st minute by Chandan Gawas of Goa Velha was intercepted by Arron Fernandes of Cansaulim. Prasil Kankonkar scored from a header in the 60th minute from a 35-yard freekick taken by Joseph Rodrigues for Goa Velha.
In the 64th minute, CAC Cansaulim were awarded a penalty kick for a handball in the box by Suresh Thapa of Goa Velha. Elvino Fernandes scored the equaliser for Cansaulim from the penalty spot, 1-1.
In the tiebreaker, Prasil, Krishab, Vikranth, Sairaj, Suresh, Joseph, Lokeendra, Yogendra, Ansel netted for Goa Velha while Chandan failed to score and for Cansaulim. Elvino, Cidroy, Selvin, Arron, Selwin, Jude, Kenneth, Melwyn scored while Chadwick and Aryan missed for Cansaulim. The Man of the match prize was awarded to Joseph Rodrigues of Goa Velha at the hands of Richard D'souza.
