The Goa women’s Under-23 team opened their Elite T20 campaign on Monday with an impressive victory, defeating Rajasthan by a convincing margin of 38 runs, at the VCA Stadium in Civil Lines, Nagpur.

Opting to bat first after being sent in by Rajasthan, Goa posted a strong total of 159/4 in the allotted 20 overs. They then showcased disciplined bowling and sharp fielding to restrict Rajasthan to 121/7, sealing a confident win.

Goa’s batting was led brilliantly by Usma Khan, who top-scored with a sparkling 56 runs off just 29 balls, smashing seven crisp boundaries and three powerful sixes. Wicketkeeper-batter Tanisha Gaikwad provided excellent support, crafting a composed 51 off 46 balls, including eight fours. Together, Usma and Tanisha stitched a crucial 54-run partnership for the third wicket, giving Goa a solid platform.

Opener Harshita Yadav contributed 27, while middle-order batter Athashree Shivarkar remained unbeaten on 16, ensuring Goa finished strongly. For Rajasthan, Shanu, D.R. Kanwar, Archana Yogi and S.P. Sharma picked up one wicket each.

Chasing 160, Rajasthan’s innings never gained momentum as Goa’s bowlers struck early. New-ball duo Metali Gawander and Usma Khan delivered sharp, disciplined spells that rattled the top order. Metali was exceptional, taking 3 wickets for just 21 runs in her four overs. Usma backed her up superbly, claiming 2 wickets for 22 from her quota.

Vidhi Bhandare chipped in with 1 wicket for 15, while captain Tanaya Naik showed good control, picking 1 for 21. Rajasthan’s Bhavini tried to fight back with an unbeaten 36, but received little support from the other end.

With this well-earned win, Goa collected four crucial points and announced their strong intentions early in the tournament.

Goa’s next match is scheduled for Tuesday against Bengal at the Lady Amritbai Daga College Ground in Nagpur.
