Johnny Pereira, former Salgaocar winger passed away after a brief illness. Pereira began his club career with Vaddem Sports Club and then represented Vasco Sports Club and Salgaocar Sports Club.FC Goa Technical Director Derrick Pereira in his condolence message said Johnny Pereira will always remain alive in his achievements. "He was an extremely crafty left-back, someone who has been the inspiration for so many generations. My condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace," he said.
"His invaluable contribution to Goan Football will always remain with us, and never be forgotten. Goan Football has only got poorer. My condolences to his family. I share the grief," Elvis Gomes, ex-president of GFA added.
"Johnny Pereira was a warrior, sad to see him perish. I remember Johnny was once given the task of man-marking Cheema Okerie against Mohun Bagan at Sait Nagjee tournament in Calicut. Johnny frustrated the big Cheema so much that little Johnny became the darling of the stadium," said Gasper Crasto, former Salgaocar striker.
GFA senior vice president Antonio Pango condoling the demise of the legend said, "It's sad to hear that Johnny Pereira, one of the best defenders of Goan football is no more."
