Goan masters athletes return with 24 medals

The Goan masters athletes bagged a haul of 24 medals at the Masters Athletics Nationals held at Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. The Goans returned with eight gold, nine silver and seven bronze 

medals. 

Anita Rodrigues (70+) broke the Asian record in hammer throw, while also won gold in shot put. She won a silver in discus throw. Joseph Aguiar (70+) broke last year’s Asian record in 400m race, clocking 01:08:19.  

Betty D’Silva (50+) won gold medals in triple jump and shot put, and a silver in discuss throw. Regina Dourado (45+) won gold in 800m race and a silver in 400m run. Lizet Camara (55+) won gold in high jump and a silver in shot put. Angela Braganza (55+) won gold in javelin throw. Vrunda Vernekar (55+) won a bronze in triple jump, while Perpetua Jacques (70+) won a silver in 100m and 200m sprint. Sudhakar Naik (60+) won a bronze in 1500m race. 

Philip Fernandes (70+) won a bronze in 100m run. The 4x400 relay team of Yashwant Vernekar, Inacio Figueredo, Mahesh Karapurkar and Anandu Kadam won 

a silver.
