PANAJI: Goans Hockey, in collaboration with Hockey India, inaugurated a three-day Coaching and Officiating Workshop at the Peddem Sports Complex, Mapusa, on Wednesday.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Ajay Gawade, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, who assured Goans Hockey of the department's continued support in organising such developmental programmes.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Gawade said the long-awaited AstroTurf ground for South Goa would be taken up once the monsoon season concludes, providing a major boost to hockey players in the region. He also announced that an international-level AI conference will be hosted in Goa in November.
Hockey India has deputed experienced resource persons Abhishek Mishra and Deepak Joshi from Dehradun to conduct the three-day sessions, focusing on modern coaching methods and officiating standards.
During the inaugural function, Dr. Gawade was felicitated by Goans Hockey president Abhay Bhamikar and general secretary Feral Furtado with a bouquet, shawl and memento in recognition of his support for the sport.
Among those present was Raju Pawar, Assistant Director of the Sports Authority of Goa. The programme was compered by Anjulo P. Fernandes, Treasurer of Goans Hockey.
