Goa's Michel, Karishma called up for India camp

Goan players, defender Michel Castanha and striker Karishma Shirvoikar, have been selected for the senior women’s national football camp in preparation for the AFC Asian Women’s Championship 2022. 

The residential camp will be held in Goa from December 1 to January 15.

Goa Football Association president Churchill Alemao congratulated the two Goan players for being selected among the 30 probables and exhorted them to put in their best to earn a place in the final India squad for the AFC Championship. “It is a proud moment for Goan women’s football,” Churchill stated.

Karishma had played for PVC Parra in the Vendata Women’s League while Michel had donned colours of Churchill Brothers women’s team.

Gregory D’Souza, General Secretary of PVC Parra and GFA Executive Committee member, was ecstatic that a footballer from the small village club from Parra, Karishma had earned a place in the India camp. “We are proud of her as well as Michel as both of them kept the Goa women’s football flag flying high and brought honour and glory to the State. I hope that the talented players would earn a place in the India squad,” Gregory said.
