Goa's young chess sensation Reuben Colaco (Elo 1419) secured three medals - one silver and two bronze - in the standard and rapid chess format at the 2nd Asia Youth Chess Championship in the U-10 Open category, held in Waskaduwam, Sri Lanka.
The Margao-based lad, who is a student of Loyola High School, was in joint first place in both standard and rapid chess, however, had to settle for silver and bronze on tie-breaker score respectively. The tournament success helped Reuben to increase his standard Elo ratings

"I am very happy because I was the only Goan to represent India at this championship and I won medals in all the formats of the tournament. Playing at this international championship in Sri Lanka gave me exposure to play against highly rated players from different federations," said an excited

Reuben is a regular player of Fatorda RCC and is trained by SAG senior coach Sanjay Kavlekar. "I would like to thank my parents, coaches, AICF and GCA for their continued support and appreciation. Reuben stunned higher ranked Dilhara Ishini (Elo 1638) and went on to draw with Pallie Tuan Eshan (Elo 1737). Reuben had earlier won the State U-11 championship in August.
