GOMECO, Chorao CC register convincing wins

GOMECO Campus Sports Club and Chorao Cricket Club recorded emphatic victories in the ongoing 4th Chandrakant Karapurkar Tournament, played at the Konkan Railway Ground, Margao.

GOMECO defeated Maruti Sports Club by 29 runs, while Chorao outplayed Vijay Cricket Club by 61 runs. The highlight of the day was an explosive innings by Swapnech Velip, who smashed the fastest half-century of the tournament off just 11 balls.

In the morning match between GOMECO Campus Sports Club and Maruti Sports Club, Maruti SC won the toss and elected to field.

GOMECO Campus Sports Club posted a strong total of 209 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. Sanket Mandrekar top-scored with 39, while Amogh Prabhudessai remained unbeaten on 32. Prashant Patil and Ashish chipped in with 25 runs each. For Maruti SC, Vikram Gaitonde was impressive with the ball, claiming 2 wickets for 23 runs.

In reply, Maruti Sports Club managed 180 for 8 in 20 overs. Sahil Mandekar played a valiant knock of 57 not out, supported by Shubham Kaninde (24) and Roshan Naik (21). Amogh Prabhudessai (2/30) and Sanket Mandrekar (1/28) were the pick of the GOMECO bowlers.

Sanket Mandrekar (GOMECO) was named the man of the match.

In the afternoon match between Chorao Cricket Club and Vijay Cricket Club, Chorao Cricket Club won the toss and chose to bat first.

Chorao piled up 209 for 8 in just 18 overs. Swapnech Velip stole the show with a blistering 60, registering the fastest half-century of the tournament. He was well supported by Sudip Faldessai (37*), Vaibhav Naik (28), and Dhiraj Devidas (28). For Vijay Cricket Club, Amod Borkar (3/17) and Vinayak Paradkar (2/45) bowled well.

Chasing a steep target, Vijay Cricket Club were restricted to 148 for 9 in 18 overs. Amod Borkar top-scored with 50, while Vinayak Paradkar added 24. Ditendra Naik delivered a match-winning bowling performance for Chorao, claiming 5 wickets for 29 runs.

Ditendra Naik (Chorao CC) was adjudged as the man of the match.
