St Antonio Warriors (women) Mapusa emerged champions of the National Sports Day Hockey Festival, organized by Goan Hockey in collaboration with Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, at Don Bosco ground, Fatorda.
Three women's teams and four men's teams participated in the festival and the matches were played in a round-robin league system. St Antonio Warriors (women) scored 10 goals in both their matches; Geeta Rathod being the highest scorer with 8 goals to her credit. Young Sports Hockey Club Mapusa were placed second in the festival.
In the men's section, four teams “ Young Sports HC Mapusa, St Antonio Warriors, Mapusa, Majorda Hockey and Goa Hockey Promoters Navelim “ took part in the festival and played again in a round-robin league system. Young Sports HC Mapusa were the champions, defeating all the other three teams in the championship. The highest scorer in the men's section was Dattesh Pirolkar of Majorda Hockey with five goals.
During the prize distribution function, Anjulo P Fernandes, vice-president of Goan Hockey, gave away the trophy to the captain of St Antonio Warriors Mapusa in the presence of Benny Viegas, Secretary of Goan Hockey, and other office-bearers. Melchoir Alemao welcomed the gathering and later proposed the vote of thanks.
