Holy Spirit Institute, Margao and Regina Martyrum High School, Assolna entered into the quarter-finals of the Ramnath D Volvotkar memorial inter school U-17 football tournament organized by Insight Society in association with DSYA, Damodar English HS and Damodar HSS at DSYA ground, Gudi, on Thursday.
Holy Spirit Institute swamped St Joseph’s Educational Institute, Chandor 3-1. Holy Spirit Institute were leading 2-0 at the break. Vellington Fernandes opened the scoring for the winners in the 13th minute of the match.
Mackenzie Fernandes doubled it in the 24th minute. St Joseph’s Institute showed urgency in the second session and made some good moves through Davis Fernandes but missed scoring chances. Maven Dias who was later declared as the player of the match inflated the lead by scoring third goal for Holy Spirit. Shrine Clement reduced the margin at the fag end of the match.
In another match, Regina Martyrum HS of Assolna registered a hard-fought solitary goal win over Mae Dos Pobres High School, Nuvem. After a barren first session, Louis Crosley netted the all important goal in the 38th minute of play.
