DULER

Bidesh XI played their hearts out to come from a goal down to register a 5-1 win over Goan Warriors in the GFA’s 3rd Division Bardez zone finals organized by GFA, at Duler stadium, here on Thursday.

The first session was dominated by Bidesh XI colts but it was Goan Warriors who struck in the 30th minute to go into the breather with a one-goal lead. In the 15th minute Bidesh’s Dnyaneshwar Pednekar sent a through pass to an overlapping Saish Kavlekar who connected the ball which went out.

Another chance went begging for Bidesh when Chandan sent a short pass to Saish but before the latter could react, Goan Warriors keeper Dinesh Moraskar cleared the ball for a corner. In a counter attack, Goan Warriors’ Chetan Shirodkar sent a perfect cross to a well positioned Craig Menezes, who intelligently placed the ball into the far corner of the goal, 1-0. On crossing over, the Bidesh colts went all out in search of the equaliser with the support of their vociferous supporters and they tasted success in the 54th minute. A free kick by Chandan Govekar was controlled by Gauresh Kankonkar, who coolly tapped the ball into the goal, 1-1.

Hardly had the cheers died down, in the 57th minute, Chandan’s shot at the goal was parried for a corner by Goan Warriors keeper Dinesh Moraskar. Chandan Govekar curled his corner inside the goal area to Chandan Narulkar, who directed his header at the goal which was turned into his own goal by Goan Warriors defender Akshay Dabolkar, 2-1.

In the last 10 minutes of the match, Bidesh colts pumped in three more goals with Chandan Narulkar netting his brace, while substitute Gaurish Bugde and Chandan Govenkar also added their names to the scorers’ list to make it 5-1.

St Rock YC down

SC Davorlim

St Rock Youth Club Majorda put up a strong second half fight to register a 2-0 win over a spirited Sporting Club of Davorlim in the GFA Third Division League Salcete Zone play-off match, at Ambelim ground, on Thursday.

Both the teams started the match on a cautious note. Majorda’s Flesbon Ferrao and Ismail Pathan had couple of chances to put their team ahead but the players fumbled with their finishing. At the other end, Davorlim’s Vito Miranda and Milton Colaco had a decent first half as the duo commanded the play for their side.

Crossing over, St Rock YC looked the more attacking side and managed to score in the 47th minute through Selvino Sequeira. St Rock made three changes as the coach introduced Suraj, Lucky and Joyston in place of Aston Darren and Flesborn which bolstered their attacking as well as defending game plan.

However, Davorlim weren’t ready to give up as the team attacked in numbers and even came close to scoring the leveller through Jovito and Robinson. St Rock YC scored the second off a counter in the 89th minute through Samson Braganza to seal the match.
