Cana-Benaulim Sporting Association swamped Betalbatim SC 5-0 to move into the quarter-finals of 41st Cana-Benaulim soccer organised by Cana Benaulim Sporting Association and being played at St John the Baptist Grounds, Dando-Benaulim on Wednesday.
Klusner Pereira of Betalbatim had the first chance of the match after taking control of the ball from Melroy Cotta as he dribbled past Faizal Bepari and Grayfans Fernandes of Benaulim and shot from close range but Swiston D'Silva, keeper of Benaulim was equal to the task in the tenth minute. Then Rody Fernandes sprayed the ball to Arif Pathan of Benaulim but his shot lacked power which was easily saved by Gladson Fernandes, keeper of Betalbatim in the 30th minute.
With the home crowds rooting for Cana Benaulim, they netted five quick goals in the second half through
Greto Rebello's rasping drive in the 42nd minute, then Nicholas Rodrigues' downward header made it 2-0 for Benaulim in the 47th minute within two minutes Elvis Barreto pulled his trigger to shoot from the top of the Betalbaim box to make it 3-0.
Then Elvis Barretto and Keegan Rodrigues netted a goal each to make it 5-0 for Benaulim in the 62nd and 64th minute respectively. Cana-Benaulim SA will now meet CDJ Ribandar in the quarter-finals on August 13.
