Hosts Fatorda Veterans shunted out Bardez Veterans 4-3 via tiebreaker to win the First All Goa Veterans football tournament organized by Fatorda Veterans, in an absorbing final at Don Bosco Engineering Ground, Fatorda on Sunday.
Backed by the home crowd, Fatorda Veterans showed the attacking intent and had a chance to surge ahead when attacking midfielder Francis Andrade unleashed a stiff shot. However Bardez Veterans goalkeeper Mario Aguair rose to the ocassion to fist away the ball to saftey.
At the other end, Bardez Veterans came close in the 17th minute when striker Pascoal Pereira's volley was parried away by the Fatorda goalkeeper Camilo Baretto.
The second half turned out livelier with both the teams showing aggressive intent. Bardez Veterans had a chance to strike the match winner but Mahesh Kambli shot wide, much to the dismay of their supporters. With time running out both the teams pressed hard for the match winner but it eluded them.
In the ensuing penalty shootout, Francis Andrade, Aldrin Lobo, Aldrin Lobo and Hanuman Pednekar were on target for Fatorda Veterans while Pascoal Pereira, Narendra Gaad and Gavin Araujo converted for Bardez
Veterans.
Fatorda Veterans received a winner’s prize of Rs 30,000 while Bardez Veterans bagged Rs 20,000.
