MARGAO: Hosts Guirdolim Club edged past CAC Cansaulim 2“1 to enter the quarterfinals of the 19th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup, organised by Guirdolim Club and played at the Chandor Church Sports Complex.
Guirdolim broke the deadlock in the 7th minute, as Hayden redeemed his earlier miss by latching onto a through ball from Mark, dribbling past two defenders, and calmly slotting past the diving goalkeeper.
After the break, the teams were evenly matched but wasteful in front of goal. In the 40th minute, Hayden doubled his and Guirdolim’s tally with a crisp strike from the top of the box to make it 2“0. Cansaulim fought hard to respond and pulled one back in the 45th minute, with Aaron converting a penalty after Akram handled the ball inside the area.
The hosts, however, held firm to secure a 2“1 victory. Hayden Fijardo was named Player of the Match and received the award from GFA Executive Committee member Andrew Ferrao.
