MARGAO: In a thrilling U-14 football clash, South Goa United staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Sesa Football Academy 5“3, overturning a 3“0 first-half deficit.
Sesa Academy had stormed into the lead with an own goal in the 2nd minute, followed by quick strikes from forward Ashton Gomes in the 5th and 23rd minutes, giving them a commanding 3“0 advantage.
Just before halftime, Presley Faleiro pulled one back for South Goa United, setting the stage for a sensational second-half fightback. After the break, South Goa United’s aggressive midfield and attacking play paid off as they scored a long-range goal to narrow the gap. Talented forward Elmer Fernandes then sealed the comeback with two brilliant strikes in the 37th and 58th minutes, earning the team a memorable 5“3 victory. Elmer Fernandes was named Man of the Match, presented by former India assistant coach Mariano Dias.
In the second U-14 match, Salgaocar FC and Cortalim Villagers SWC played out a goalless draw. Cortalim goalkeeper Badal Ram was outstanding between the posts and received the Man of the Match award from former India captain Climax Lawrence.
