Immaculate Conception Sports Club (ICSC) Paroda prevailed over Sporting Club of Davorlim 4-1 via tie-breaker to cruise into the quarter-final of All Goa 26th Curtorim Village Panchayat Cup inter- village football tournament, organised by Curtorim Gymkhana at Church grounds, Curtorim on Monday.
Both teams dished out good brand of soccer. Sporting Davorlim had a golden chance to surge ahead in the 25th minute but Stanely Gomes blasted wide much to the disbelief of Davorlim supporters.
Crossing over, ICSC were a dominant lot with their forwards firing sorties. And, in the 38th minute they nearly broke the deadlock but Kanchan Khiro's snap shot missed the mark narrowly. As the match headed for tie-breaker, both spurned simple chances. In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Manesh Oliveira, Drenzil Vaz, Kanchan Kiro and Sezvin Fernandes scored for winners while Vincent Colaco found the mark for Sporting Club of Davorlim.
On Sunday, a triple strike by Blasco Fernandes enabled Ambelim Sports Club beat Navelim Villagers Union 4-3 to cruise into the quarterfinal. Navelim Villagers Union started the game with an attacking intent and took the lead in the 30th minute when former Dempo diminutive striker Sukhdev Arwade bulged the net off a pass from Roven Pereira. Unfazed, Ambelim were only soaking in the pressure and had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards muffed from close range.
Crossing over, Ambelim came out attacking from the flanks and in the 70th minute Blasco Fernandes neutralized the lead off a pass from Rexon Fernandes. Boosted by the equalizer, Ambelim upped the ante and troubled the rival defence. And, in the 52nd minute Blasco Fernandes struck the second time to put his team 2-1up. Inspired by the lead, Ambelim intensfied their attacks and in the 65th minute, Perryson Fernandes put the issue beyond doubt off a cross from Raymond Cardozo. Stung by the reversal, Navelim Villagers Union went into a shell only to see Sukhdev Arwade striking his brace in the 66th minute. Two minutes later, Blasco Fernandes completed his hat-trick when he tapped the ball home off a defense-splitting pass from Joseph Fernades. Navelim Villagers Union tried their best to come back into the game and managed to reduced the deficit at the stroke of the final whistle.
