Josley Gomes scored a hat-trick as SaoJose de Areal Sports Club thrashed Raia Sporting Club 3-0 to enter thesemifinals of the 45th Gold Silver Rolling Trophy Football Tournament,organised by Navelim Sporting Club at Rosary Church ground, Navelim, onThursday.
Sao Jose de Areal made a fast start and tookthe lead through Gomes in the 10th minute. Gomes doubled the advantage later inthe half, while Raia's Achilles Fernandes came close to pulling one back with apowerful shot from inside the box that missed the target.
Areal went into the half-time break with a 2-0lead.
Raia tried to fight back in the second halfbut failed to find the net. Gomes completed his hat-trick to seal Sao Jose deAreal's place in the semifinals.
Santosh R Naik, general secretary of NavelimSporting Club, presented the player of the match award to Gomes.
Paroda fight back to edge Cuncolim Union
MARGAO: Fr Agnelo Youth Club, Paroda, camefrom behind to defeat Cuncolim Union 3-2 and enter the quarterfinals of the15th Fatima Cup, organised by Dicarpale Sports Club at its ground on Thursday.
Viraj Velip put Cuncolim Union ahead in theninth minute with a neat placement. Paroda equalised through Fedrich Fernandesin the 24th minute, with the teams going into the half-time break level at 1-1.
Cuncolim Union regained the lead throughTushar Gaonkar in the 34th minute. Joel Furtado then restored parity for Parodawith a volley from inside the box in the 55th minute.
Godwin Fernandes scored the decisive goal inthe 58th minute after beating the defence and goalkeeper to complete Paroda'scomeback.
Rocky Furtado, assistant sports secretary ofDicarpale Sports Club, presented the man of the match award to Fernandes.
Loyola, Fatima Convent advance
MARGAO: The 28th Bro D O Slattery Memorial AllGoa Inter-School Football Tournament for boys and girls under-13, organised byRegina Mundi School, Chicalim, entered its second day with several matches atthe RMS School ground on Thursday.
In the girls' section, Navy Children Schoolbeat Our Lady of Regina Martyrum, Assolna, 1-0, while Infant Jesus School,Colva, lost 1-4 to Perpetual Succour School, Navelim.
In the quarterfinals, St Ann's School, Agonda,beat Navy Children School 4-1, with Poonam scoring twice and Ashana and Adeleadding a goal each. Hanshika scored for Navy Children School.
In another quarterfinal, Fatima Convent,Margao, beat Perpetual Succour School, Navelim, 4-0.
In the boys' section, Our Lady of PerpetualSuccour, Cortalim, lost to Navy Children School 3-4 via a tie-breaker. Formerchampions Bethany Convent defeated St Ann's, Agonda, 4-2 via a tie-breaker,while Our Lady of Lourdes, Utorda, beat Marina English School, Verna. ChampionsLoyola School defeated Regina Martyrum, Assolna, 5-0.
In the quarterfinals, Navy Children Schoolbeat St Ann's, Agonda, 3-0, with Priyanshu, Shriyansh and Bhavesh scoring.Loyola School then defeated Our Lady of Lourdes School, Utorda, 8-0, with Aidanscoring four goals, Karl two, and Samuel and Curran one each.
