Junior girls' football: Goa outplayed by West Bengal

MARGAO
Goa went down to West Bengal 4-1 in Group B of Junior Girls' Football Championship Tier 1 at RDT Stadium Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.

The match saw West Bengal take the lead in the 34th as Rimpa Halder broke the deadlock. However, their joy was short-lived as Goa neutralised the score in the 38th minute. West Bengal regained the lead through Mampi Roy in the 45+5 minute.

The second half belonged to West Bengal as they tormented the rival defence with constant raids. Kumkam Saren scored in the 47th minute, while Mampi Roy struck a second time to make it 4-1.

Goa will next face Haryana on August 13.

'Missed chances'

Speaking about the game, Goa coach Jonathan Faleiro said the missed chances proved costly for his team.

"We missed our chances. If we had converted them, it would be a different scoreline. Our striker's jersey was pulled by the West Bengal keeper when the score was goalless, but the referee didn't give a penalty. Later, our players could have defended well to avoid this scoreline," Faleiro said.

"We had begun the clash strongly and had some early chances, but once West Bengal broke the deadlock, they excelled both in attack and defence to keep us at bay," Faleiro added.
