Ambelim Queens won their second game defeating Euro Connexion 3-2 in the Sevens Women’s Football Festival organised by Goa Sevens and Ambelim Sports Club, at Ambelim Sports Complex on Wednesday.
The home team tasted victory after Karishma Shirvoikar scored a hat-trick while their opponents scored through Flavina Rodrigues and Macrenna Dias.
Ambelim Queens having won their first game of the festival to Skyla Strikers, named an unchanged squad; while Euro Connexion brought in Riya Pires and Macrenna Dias in place of Chelsea Simoes and Flavina Rodrigues.
The Ambelim side looked formidable at the start and this was evident as they took the lead early on in the 4th minute after Karishma’s header hit the edge of the bar and landed into the nets giving the home side a 1-0 lead.
The home team after opening their tally, dominated the proceedings and their attempts finally paid off as Karishma completed her brace easing past two defenders and swiftly placing her strike into the nets in the 12th minute. However, the Euro side did not look to be giving up as they managed to pull one goal down three minutes later. Flavina Rodrigues shot into the open nets after the rival goalkeeper failed to block the attempt. Ambelim Queens were leading 2-1 at half time.
Moving into the second half, Euro Connexion scored the equaliser just after three minutes of play as Macrenna Dias found the target while Queens goalkeeper Astrid Pereira was left in shock.
The Ambelim side did not give up as Nevilla Colaco shot from far, but the curling strike missed the post. Their hard work however, paid off as Karishma Shirvoikar completed her hat-trick converting from the spot giving the home team a 3-2 lead, after the referee had pointed to the spot for a hand-ball offence in the box. The Ambelim side held on to their slender lead, to gather all three points for the second time in the tourney.
