Madel Sports Club stormed into the quarterfinals of the 3rd Caniza Peixoto Memorial 9-a-side Football Tournament with a convincing 2-0 victory over Batora United Club at the St Alex Church Ground, Curtorim, on Thursday.
Both teams battled hard in an evenly contested first half but failed to find the breakthrough, going into the interval locked at 0-0.
Madel SC returned for the second session with renewed determination and dominated the proceedings with a series of attacking moves. Their relentless pressure kept the Batora United defence and goalkeeper under constant threat.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 45th minute when Dawson Diniz found the back of the net to give Madel SC the lead. Just three minutes later, Floyd Antao doubled the advantage with a well-taken strike in the 48th minute, effectively sealing the contest.
Despite their efforts, Batora United were unable to respond as Madel SC comfortably held on to their two-goal cushion to book a place in the last eight.
Clifton Fernandes of Madel Sports Club was adjudged Man of the Match for his outstanding performance. The award was presented by Sebostiao Castanha, a club member.
