A second half strike by Albino Pereira helped Youth Club of Manora overcome Maina Sports Club 1-0 to emerge champions in the Salcete Zone GFA Third Division play-off final at Raia Panchayat grounds, on Thursday. There was no score at lemon break.
Both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards were guilty of misfiring from close range. Post resumption, Youth Club of Manora put up an improved display with their forwards and midfielders working in tandem to put the rival defence into disarray.
The lone goal of the match came in the 60th minute when striker Albino Pereira bulged the net off a pass from Schubert Pereira.Stung by that setback, Maina Sports Club went all out but failed to get past the rival rearguard. Both the teams qualified for the second division league. Youth Club of Manora remained unbeaten and scored the highest number of goals.
