Manovikas edge Holy Rosary Convent

Holy Spirit wallop Regina Martyrum 4-0; Rosary HSS earn walkover

Manovikas English Medium School, Margao shunted out Holy Rosary Convent High School, Nuvem 4-2 via tie-breaker in the Salcete Taluka Under 17 Subroto Mukherjee inter-school football tournament organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at SAG Artificial Turf grounds, Fatorda on Thursday. Both the teams were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation period.
In an absorbing encounter, both the teams displayed attacking intent as a result there were plenty of thrills at either end.
Manovikas School created scare in the early moments of the game when striker Schuyler Furtado who picked up the ball from Joshua Baretto and the former deceived the rival defenders Laston Baretto and Ryan Borges but his well measured shot was well blocked by Holy Rosary Convent goalkeeepr with great difficulty.
At the other end, Holy Rosary Convent did not lag behind as Mark Borges' shot found the side netting. Unfazed by the rival's motives, Manovikas English Medium school regrouped quickly and came close in taking the lead when Manav Kamat unleashed a stiff shot.
However rival goalkeeper Joel Miranda was equal to the task to parry away the ball to saftey. Holy Rosary Convent had a chance to break the deadlock when Bryson Colaco fed Mark Borges inside the rival penalty box, but he was thwarted by rival defender Darin Fernandes from scoring with neat tackles.
In the 7th minute, Manovikas striker Aldrich Gama sent a defence-splitting pass to Stylon Rodrigues who failed to beat the rival goalkeeper in a one-to-one siutation.
A minute later, Holy Rosary Convent's breakthrough came when Meislein Barretto made a darting run inside the rival penalty box and outwitted two rival defenders and punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
Crossing over, Manovikas English Medium School were a dominant lot with their forwards showed urgency and troubled the rival defence with orchestrated raids. Aldrick Gama who was in the thick of action neutrailzed the lead with a shot in the 42nd minute.
With time running out, Holy Rosary Convent had a golden chance to strike the match-winner but when Mark Borges had a free run inside the rival penalty box he shot wide much to the dismay of Nuvem supporters.
In the ensuing tiebreaker, Shring Masur, Aldrick Gama and Manav Kamat found the mark for Manovikas English Medium School while Laston Baretto was the only one sucessfull for Holy Rosary Convent School, Nuvem.
In other matches, Holy Spirit Institute High School, Margao walloped Regina Martyrum High School, Assola 4-0. Holy Spirit Institute dominated the game right from the word go. Aditya Salgaocar, Harsh Patre, Richard Carvalho and Veelington Fernandes were the goal-getters for winners.
Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim gained a walkover as their opponents King's High School, Sao Jose de Areal did not turn up for the match.
