Margao Sports Club blanked Navelim Sporting Club 3-1 to win the All-Goa Assumpta Trophy inter-village football tournament organized by Sarzora Sports Club played at SAG Ground, Sarzora on Sunday.
Margao Sports Club started the proceedings on an attacking note and took the lead in the 20th minute when Velito Miranda headed home the ball off a pass from Franciso Andrade.
Margao Sports Club doubled the lead when Francisco Andrade punished the rival goalkeeper with neat finish off a Cliff Baretto assist in the 23rd minute. Post resumption, John Colaco scored another goal for Margao Sports Club with a snap shot.
Down by 0-3, Navelim Sporting Club went all out and scored the consolation goal when Pixton D’Costa punished the rival goalkeeper with neat finish.
Margao Sports Club were richer by Rs 40,000 and a trophy while Navelim Sporting Club had to settle for Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
Churchill Alemao, Benaulim MLA and president of Goa Football Association gave away the prizes in the presence of Rev Fr Oswaldo D’Souza, Parish Priest Sarzora Church; Sabita Mascarenhas, sarpanch of VP Sarzora; Anthony Pango, vice president of Goa Football Association; Anthony Leo Fernandes, Sarpanch of Colva and GFA Executive members John Silva and Jose Santarita Coelho.
