MARGAO
Title aspirants Chandor Club routed a lacklustre Parish Youth Nuvem 5-0 to storm into the finals of South Goa McDowell’s No 1 Yaari Cup inter village football tournament, organised by Cuncolim Union, at Government Village School ground, Cuncolim on Sunday. Chandor Club led 2-0 at the breather.
The highlight of the match was brilliant braces by Moses D’sa and Sunny Fernandes. Chandor Club showed their attacking intent from the start and Moses opened the scoring when his well executed free kick eluded the human wall and beat the goalkeeper to put his team in front in the 4th minute. Spurred by the lead, Chandor Club upped the ante and Succoro Fernandes doubled the lead in the 14th minute when he picked up the ball from Sunny Fernandes and scored.
Post resumption, there was no respite for the opposition as Moses D’Sa brought up his brace in the 45th minute after the re-start when he beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish off an assist from Luis Noronha. Parish Youth could not claw back into the game and Chandor Club forwards made merry. In the 67th minute, Frazier Gomes beat the rival goalkeeper with a scorcher.
Parish Youth made some concentrated efforts to come back into the game but just didn’t pack enough punch to find the elusive goal. Sunny Fernandes drove the last nail into the rival coffin in the 65th minute off a well measured pass from Moses D’Sa.
Chandor Club will now clash with Snow’s Football Academy, Fatorda in the finals on September 2.
