Our Lady of Mother of Poor High School,Tilamol, edged past St Jude High School, Betalbatim, 1-0 and entered the quarter-finals of 3rd Fr Peter SVD Memorial Under-14 boys inter-school football tournament at SVD Seminary ground on Wednesday.
Tilamol school struck rhythm early and called the shots against their rivals. Joyron Fernandes picked up the ball from Ivo Costa and the former dribbled past the rival defender, only to see his effort being saved by St Jude goalkeeper.
At the other end, St Jude came close to scoring when Kamal Naik blasted wide from close range. Trifan Cardozo scored the all-important goal in the 10th minute, which proved to be the match-winner for the worthy effort for the Tilamol team.
Crossing over, St Jude tried their best, but failed to get past the rival rearguard. On the other hand, the Tilamol school had couple of scoring chances but their forwards misfired from close range.
Fr. Joaquim Fernandes, Rector of SVD Seminary-Raia, declared the tournament open in the presence of Fr Eufemiano, Fr Lino De Sa, parish priest of Our Lady of Candelaria Camorlin and chief guest. The man-of-the match award was presented to Trifan Cardozo of Our Lady of Mother of Poor High School.
