Kewal Tamhankar, Utkarsha Shivani, Tanvesh Navelkar, Upendra Talavdekar and Simran Kubal emerged winners in the 2nd Purushottam V P Navelcar Memorial All Goa table tennis tournament organised by Panjim Table Tennis Club, at Indoor stadium, Campal.

Top seed Kewal registered a straight sets (13-11, 11-7, 11-6) win over Anish Verlekar to lift the Under-21 Boys trophy. In Under-21 Girls finals, top seed Utkarsha was made to work hard before prevailing for a 11-7, 11-7, 6-11, 11-8 win over Karishma D’ Mello. Tanvesh was in prime nick as he registered a comfortable 11-4, 11-4, 11-5 win over Amogh Bawachikar to win the Under-16 Boys title. The Under-12 Boys finals was won by Upendra who beat Advait Mudras 11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 11-4 in four tough sets. Simran emerged Girls Under-12 winner with an easy 11-8, 11-6, 11-2 win over Shivani Dhamapurkar.

Following semis and quarters prizes were awarded: Under-12 Girls “ Anushri Naik and Trisha Hamanavae (Semis), Divya Sen, Galya Fernandes, Stuti Shivani and Leoma Fernandes (Quarters); Under-12 Boys “ Priyam Redkar and Abeer Kamat (Semis), Rajat Dalal, Ayush Nadkarni, Azriel Fernandes and Meeth Pal (Quarters); Under-16 Boys “ Nathan Barua and Omar Baig (Semis), Ved Sardesai, Anish Verlekar, Shashank Pradhan and Aniket Naik (Quarters); Under-21 Girls - Sucheta Bansal and Akshata Nair (Semis), Aalya Arora, Apoorva Bandekar, Anushka Hamanavar and Simran Kubal (Quarters); Under-21 Boys “ Zubin Bocarro and Ashutosh Chari (Semis), Nigel Menezes, Nathan Barua, Tanvesh Navelkar and Ved Sardessai (Quarters). Rohan Fernandes emerged promising player of the tournament.

Gaurish Dhond, vice-president of Goa Table Tennis Association; Ajit Ghantker, former State TT player; Noel Estibeiro, TT coach; and Panjim TT Club office bearers Selvyn Godinho (secretary), Joel Andrade (treasurer), Sandeep Heble (vice-president), Ajay Naik (referee) and Ramesh Naik (member) attended the prize distribution function.

Anirudh wins MTCA chess tourney

PANAJIAnirudh Parsekar (1467), the second seed from Vasco, won the second tournament championship of the MTCA Chess League 2016-17 by winning all seven rounds of the tournament which was conducted at Ravindra Bhawan, Baina, Vasco recently. In the last round, Anirudh defeated top seed Bhimappa Harijan (1478) from Sada. Anirudh also won first tournament of the series held on August 15. The players who wins maximum tournaments out of monthly 12 tournaments to be held in 2016-17…
