Navelim Sporting Club thumped St Anthony's Sports Club, Colva 3-0 to march into the finals of All Goa Gold and Silver Rolling Trophy inter village football tournament organized by Navelim Sporting Club at Rosary ground, Navelim on Sunday. All the goals came in the opening session.
Backed by a vociferous home crowd, Navelim had a firm grip on the game and pushed their opponents back for the major part of the match. Sandy Colaco opened the scoring early when he slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Spurred by the early success, Navelim Sporting Club upped the ante and tormented the rival defence with well orchestrated raids.
At the other hand, St Anthony's were at the receiving end and looked jaded as they failed to operate as a cohesive unit and meekly surrendered their challenge without giving any fight. Jaison Pereira doubled the lead for Navelim when he beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish. Anil Siolkar sealed the rivals' fate with a stiff shot just before half time.
Post resumption, Navelim Sporting slackened in their pace but did not allowed their opponents to manoeuvere inside their own half. With time running out, St Anthony's went all out but rival defenders stood tall in keeping their citadel intact.
Navelim Sporting Club will meet Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda in the finals on October 2.
