Navelim Sporting Club staged a thrilling comeback to defeat Sao Jose de Areal 8-7 on penalties and advance to the semifinals of the 24th Bro. Eulalio Vaz Memorial Football Tournament, organized by Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, at their ground on Wednesday.
The match was an end-to-end contest, with Sao Jose de Areal taking the lead through Azilton Viegas. Navelim equalized with a stunning header by Ronaldo Pereira. As the game progressed, Areal were reduced to ten men following a red card, but both teams remained locked at 1-1 at full time.
In the decisive penalty shootout, Navelim’s Nash Pereira, Ronaldo Pereira, Noah Luis, Swedon Costa, Sherlock Dias, Travis Souza, and Sam Pereira scored, while Bresal Viegas, Josely Gomes, Aggie Antao, Aryan Carvalho, Mohammad Massuri, and David Colaco converted for Areal. Ronaldo Pereira, who scored a goal and a penalty, played a pivotal role in Navelim’s victory and was named Man of the Match by Rosario Fernandes.
