Navelim Villagers Union defeated Rossman Cruz Nagoa SC 4-2 to storm into the quarterfinals of All Goa 22nd Our Lady of Merces inter village football tournament, organised by Sirlim Sports Club, at Church Ground, Chinchinim, on Saturday.
The highlight of the match was a brilliant hat-trick by Clinton Niasso. Navelim Villagers Union led 2-0 at the half time.
The match started at a frenetic pace as Navelim Villagers Union looked determined to open the scoring. Four minutes into the match, the deadlock was broken by the Navelim Villagers striker Clinton Niasso, whose powerful shot got deflected from the outstretched legs of rival defender into the goal. In the 25th minute, Presley Gomes made it 2-0 with a vicious shot off a Clinton Niasso pass.
Post resumption, Navelim Villagers Union continued in same vein with their forwards going full throttle. Clinton Niasso struck a second time off a Travis Souza pass, soon after the restart. Down 0-3, Rossman Cruz pressed hard for a goal and in the 42nd minute, Hilton Fernandes reduced the margin.
The reducer boosted Rossman Cruz as they carried out well-orchestraed moves and seven minutes later, Myron Fernandes made it 2-3. However Navelim Villagers Union responded through Clinton Niasso, who completed his hat-trick to douse any resistance from the opposition.
